2010
GTS Central Europe, the parent of GTS-Datanet acquires Interware Zrt. and expands dataHome Server Centre. As a result of these investments GTS Group becomes one of the leading data centre operators in Hungary. As of October 2010 all subsidiaries of GTS Central Europe are to go under a unified name and use a uniform GTS brand; GTS-Datanet is thus to be renamed GTS Hungary.
2009
GTS Central Europe, the parent of GTS-Datanet, set the strategic objective to make the GTS group the leading business telecommunications provider of Central Europe through close and intensive cooperation of the the Czech, Slovak, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian subsidiaries. In compliance with the new strategy GTS Central Europe focuses on the medium-size and large enterprises, multinational companies, government agencies and telecommunications providers as the principal target groups in the countries of the region.
2008
GTS-Datanet doubles the capacity of the dataHome Server center and makes available its ADSL packages also in the service area of Invitel. GTS Central Europe, the parent of GTS-Datanet, is acquired by a consortium of private investment funds led by Columbia Capital, M/C Venture Partners and Innova Capital.
2007
GTS-Datanet provides ADSL packages in the service area of Hungarotel, which means that its broadband internet service can be ordered for 81 per cent of the Hungarian direct telephone lines. By the end of the year the company’s ADSL subscriber base approaches 50 000. GTS Central Europe, the parent of GTS-Datanet, launches centrally managed transboundary MPLS data network service unique in Central Europe, to service the multinational corporations operating in the region.
2006
GTS-Datanet implements major expansion and upgrade of its IP backbone network: it increases its former 3 Gigabit/s BIX connection over three times to 10 Gigabit/s, and launches the YO!NEKED branded service based on full local loop unbundling for residential and business customers. The company continues to provide internet service under the national Public Net programme.
2005
GTS-Datanet opens its second server hosting centre in Váci út, Budapest. The number of servers hosted by the company trebles within a year. GTS-Datanet enters the residential voice market with a carrier preselection service.
2004
GTS-Datanet concludes the first number porting contract in Hungary. GTS-Datanet becomes the internet service provider of the South Great Plain region under the Public Net programme and installs 600 access points in the region. GTS-Datanet’s data traffic on the backbone network covering the entire region reaches 3.5 GBps. GTS-Datanet opens its central customer service office in Duna Plaza, Budapest.
2003
Launch of the Datanet Cafe programme: the company opens internet cafes and customer service centres in several cities. GTS-Datanet moves its offices to the new telecommunications centre built at Budaörs with an investment of one billion forints. The interconnection of the voice services of the company with the major Hungarian telecom providers is completed in this year.
2002
GTS-Datanet joins the Central European optical ring, which connects Budapest, Vienna, Frankfurt, Berlin, Prague and Bratislava. The company signs exclusive partnership agreement with Cable and Wireless for the provision of broadband international ATM service in Hungary.
2001
The GTS Hungary urban optical network is rolled out in Transdanubia. Datanet Távközlési Kft. merges 100% into GTS Magyarország Távközlési Kft. The new company operates under the name of GTS-Datanet Távközlési Kft.
2000
GTS Magyarország joins the 650 km West Hungary optical backbone network and launches the IP-based voice service.
1999
GTSRing, the first lap of the Budapest optical cable network, is built.
1998
GTS Magyarország rolls out its network nation-wide. GTS Magyarország Távközlési Kft. acquires Datanet Távközlési Kft.
1997
GTS Magyarország provides leased line service for over 80 leading public administration and business organisations. The company’s dial-up customer base multiplies.
1996
GTS Magyarország enters into strategic agreement with British Telecom Concert.
1995
GTS Magyarország continues to roll out its nation-wide network and launches internet service.
1994
GTS Magyarország builds up Central Europe’s biggest central earth station in Budaörs. The first internet access is installed in Hungary.
1993
GTS Magyarország Távközlési Kft. is established with the mission to provide reliable, high quality telecommunications services for the Hungarian and regional public administration and business sectors.
